Registration is Open! 2026 Technician Nutrition Workshop

The 2026 AAVN Technician Workshop will take place on Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25 at the University of Tennessee Conference Center, in Knoxville, TN. In addition to earning 13 RACE approved CE credits, attendees will form a network of technicians in their region that they can connect and consult with on nutrition and other topics. Technicians will also be able to forge connections with professionals in pet food and related service industries.

Call for Abstracts - 2026 Clinical Nutrition & Research Symposium

The American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN) is now accepting abstract submissions for the 2026 Clinical Nutrition & Research Symposium. This event will take place on Tuesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 10 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Seattle, WA.

The Call for Abstracts is available here.

Abstracts will be accepted between December 1, 2025 – February 6, 2026, at 11:59 pm ET.

Oral and poster abstract presenters will be announced on March 23, 2026.

Important Announcement! 2025 Symposium

In 2025, the AAVN Clinical Nutrition & Research Symposium will take place on Saturday, June 21 in Louisville, KY.

As many of you know, we have long offered our program the Wednesday before the ACVIM Forum. This new schedule will better align with the changes in nutrition as a specialty under ACVIM and make it easier for many of you to attend both conferences and events.

In addition, a Saturday offering will allow some of our members and potential future members to attend while taking minimal time away from their workplaces. We are still planning to hold our AAVN Party – now on Saturday evening - and will be offering a few student programs in the afternoon on Friday, June 20.

This change coincides with the 25th Anniversary of our Symposium! We are looking for copies of AAVN Symposium proceedings from 2004-2013, as well as any photographs from the event throughout the years. Your help is much appreciated! Please send any materials to aavnexecutive@gmail.com

Call for Abstracts

The 2025 Call for Abstracts is available for review here. Submissions will be accepted beginning December 1. The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, February 7, 2025.

Funding Available for AAVN Student Chapters

AAVN Student chapters may request up to $500 annually to support chapter activities.

Only active student chapters may apply. Active student chapters are those who have submitted a list of current officers and faculty advisors with contact information by October 15 of this calendar year. New student chapters who have submitted their draft constitution to the AAVN Student Committee for review are also eligible for funds, if a list of officers and faculty advisors with contact information has been submitted to AAVN.

Requests for funding must include:

Date of the request

Student chapter name

Primary student contact and faculty advisor, with email and phone number

Date(s) of the activity/event

Amount requested and budgeted expenses

Description of the activity including goal(s) and anticipated outcome(s)

There is no deadline for funding requests. Please submit to aavnexecutive@gmail.com.

Student Chapters receiving funds will be required to:

Submit a write up (250 words MAX) of the event or activities, including pictures, for the AAVN e-newsletter. This summary is due within 1 week concluding the event/activity and can be sent via email to aavnexecutive@gmail.com

Create a social media post that includes photos. This post must be shared within 1 week of the event/activity. This event can be shared on Facebook or Instagram by the student chapter or sent to AAVN at aavnexecutive@gmail.com.

Provide receipts to the AAVN Executive Director following the event.

Several AAVN committees are seeking new members!

The Education Committee plans the Clinical Nutrition & Research Symposium, held in conjunction with the ACVIM Forum each year. This group selects keynote speakers and manages the abstract review process. The Education Committee also chooses speakers and topics for the annual webinar series. Meetings are held every 4-6 weeks via Zoom.

The Outreach Committeeis focused on member recruitment and retention and our communications strategies, including the e-newsletter, social media, the list serve and the website. The committee includes the e-newsletter editor(s). Meetings are held every 4-6 weeks via Zoom.

The Student Chapter Committee organizes events and activities for AAVN student chapters and student members, including the student webinar series, a virtual Town Hall & Trivia Night and a student session at the annual Symposium. The committee oversees the approval of new student chapters and ensures that existing chapters are in compliance with AAVN policies. This group also serves as reviewers for student representative applications and the blog competition. Meetings are held every 6-8 weeks via Zoom.
