This talk is designed for veterinarians and support staff (veterinary technicians, office managers, etc.) who are interested in utilizing veterinary technicians in nutritional management of patients visiting veterinary practices.
Speaker Ashley Self, BS, LVMT, VTS (Nutrition) will review the importance of credentialed veterinary technicians, the value of appropriate use of veterinary technicians, how to leverage a veterinary technician in nutrition management, and how to empower the veterinary technicians that are interested in advanced nutrition skills and knowledge.
Ashley Self, BS, LVMT, VTS (Nutrition) is currently a veterinary nurse on the nutrition service at the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine and has been on the nutrition service for the past 9 years. She serves as the secretary of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN), where she was previously the liaison between AAVN and the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition Technicians (AVNT). Ashley passed her certifying exam to become a veterinary nutrition technician specialist in 2018. Her major interests revolve around the many aspects of clinical/disease-based nutrition in both large and small animal. In the future she plans to continue her education in equine nutrition and bring nutrition education to the veterinary team, focusing on veterinary nurses. In her free time, she manages a honeybee business and a small mini farm.
